HOW LONG TO TRAIN:
Damien Munson, a United States ex-SEAL team leader, quit the US military and became a freedom fighter to fight against the militant socialist island nation of Oceania after reports that his grandparents, who hailed from St. Helena, were reportedly left to rot in one of Oceania's prisons. While in Oceania, Damien attempted to find and free them himself, sadly finding out they'd died in captivity. Munson was captured in his attempt to free his (dead) grandparents and tortured for over a year.
On the verge of death, a band of freedom fighters called "The Liberators", led by a man called "Major Liberator" performed a jail break from one of their fellow fighters, and in so doing, came across Munson and freed him and several others as well. Only five Liberators survived that jail break, Munson and Major Liberator being among them, to which Munson saved the Major at least twice.
After months of recovery (his face was severely damaged and shredded by his captors), Munson volunteered to train and head up a squad to aid The Liberators in their fight for St. Helena's freedom. Within months, not only did Munson create an elite, powerful fighting squad, he created a squad that even Major Liberator considered superior to anything he could create and lead. As such, after one particular intense battle, Munson's squad was designated as the Liberators' "Helldivers" after they'd basically dive-bombed the enemy from the sky and then shot down into the sea to not only escape pursuit, but to strike at an underwater tidal generator system and wipe out half of one island's power for days. To that, many of the Liberators' resistance fighters wanted to join the Helldivers, but had to meet the stringent training regimen that was par (and sometimes harder than) the US SEAL team training.
Since then, Munson, designated as the "Master Helldiver" (but almost always called "Pappy" instead) has continued to train and lead his Helldivers into elite combat against Oceania in every single theatre of action. The world's militaries have taken note that this 'Helldiver' Team is considered one of the world's most impressive combat teams ever devised and maintained, much to Oceania's chagrin and continued attempts to destroy the Helldivers, militarily or psychologically.
One such attempt was capturing and torturing Munson's wife, Allison "Athena" (Ayers), who was also a highly decorated Helldiver team leader. Rather than go in emotionally half-cocked as Oceania wanted, Munson and the Helldivers instead devised dozens of raids to diminish and damage Oceania's continued use of power, forcing Oceania to realign their resources, leaving a small yet tactically brilliant window of opportunity to rescue Athena. Sadly, thanks to the Champions of Oceania, they killed Athena just as she was less than a second away from escape. She died in Munson's arms. Munson swore that Oceania would 'burn' for that.
Today, Master Helldiver and his Helldivers continue to be the most dangerous combatants to Oceania. At a casualty rate of 20%, the Helldivers require constant replacements and training. Morale, however, is still and always high; they know they are the ones that are making Oceania react to whatever actions the Helldivers force them to do.
They are all highly disciplined, however, they are also vicious on the battlefield. There is little mercy towards Oceania's combatants. Every attempt the Helldivers can do to disrupt, damage or diminish Oceania's power and strength, the Helldivers will. Master Helldiver still answers to Major Liberator as his 'Commander' (as he calls him) and the rest of the Helldiver teams answer to Master Helldiver and their respective team leaders. They are highly efficient, professionals in warfare, weaponry, explosives, vehicles, aerial combat, underwater combat and of course hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship.
Power Origin: Natural
No Helldiver has powers; all are normal.
Various Weaponry, Armor and Materials
They utilize various standard weapons (Machine guns, sidearms, ammunition, explosives, knives, grenades, rocket packs, etc.), however, their load-out is mission dependent. If they are to be stealthy and light, they will gear appropriately; if they are going in to provide aerial combat, they'll use their rocket packs and mounted guns, missiles, weapons, etc., again, all based on mission needs.
That includes armoring. There are times they might not even use armor to prevent it from slowing themselves down (underwater missions for example).
Each team has at least one backup of each other's skills, so if one gets wounded or dies, the other can perform the same duty/task.
Talents are various per Helldiver/combatant, but the core Helldiver training covers the following:
Modern Weapons (Professional)
Military Operations (Professional)
SEAL Team Operations (Professional)
Physical Fitness (Professional)
Basic Vehicle Maintenance (Proficient)
Battlefield Tactics (Proficient)
Night combat (Professional)
Aerial Combat (Proficient)
Underwater Combat (Proficient)
Martial Arts: +Fighting (Proficient)
Martial Arts: Dodge/Evade (Proficient)
Martial Arts: Slam/Stun (Proficient)
Swahili (Barely Proficient)
French (Barely Proficient)
Each Helldiver's stats are baselined as follows for each graduate of Helldiver training:
Fighting - Good
Agility - Typical
Endurance - Good
Reason - at least Poor
Intuition - Good
Psyche - Good
